COVERT, MI (WKZO) -- The nuclear reactor at the Palisades Nuclear Plant was scrammed when cooling water drained from a valve on the main reactor yesterday. There was no release of radiation, and they say the public was never in any danger, but they did declare a “notice of unusual event”. That’s the lest serious of the four alert notices that can be issued. It happened right around 3PM. The aging plant in Covert was the subject of an intense NRC review just last month because of another cooling system failure.
Repairs are underway. No word on when the plant will resume generation.
