BATTLE CREEK (WKZO/WTVB) -- Officers checking out a report of a burglary got a surprise this week.
Battle Creek Police received a complaint a teenager living on Beckley Road had been stealing things from the neighbors, found a homemade bomb in the family garage.
The bomb squad responded and used the unit’s robot to move the explosive device to a clearing behind the home. It was designed with a fuse and a shotgun shell detonator.Once that was dismantled it was safe.
The 17-year-old suspect confessed to making it but did not say what he planned to do with it.
The teen is expected to be charged with breaking and entering and possession of an explosive device.
