ALLEGAN COUNTY (WKZO) -- State troopers believe a Plainwell woman was drunk when she caused a crash that hospitalized a couple, and also hurt their children Wednesday evening.
It's believed Toni Sumerix, 34, took the Plainwell exit ramp off U.S.-131 at M-89, but didn’t stop at the top of the ramp, flew over a concrete highway divider and broadsided a car that contained a family of four.
The man and woman in the front seat, from Delton, are listed in serious condition at Bronson Hospital. Their two children in the back seat, ages 7 and 16, were treated for bumps and bruises and released.
Sumerix was also treated and then taken straight to the Allegan County Jail to sober up. She has been charged with three counts of driving drunk and causing serious injuries.
