UNDATED (WKZO) -- More budget cuts for the Michigan State Police will mean the permanent closure of the post near Battle Creek and changes at others.
In fact, the department will be closing 33 of 62 posts, going to a new regional post system, with troopers relying more on the in-car technology to do their job. There are also reports street patrols will be increased by putting more commanders on the road, forcing them out of the office.
Posts in Paw Paw, Niles, Jackson and Coldwater will remain open from 8am to 4pm on weekdays.
Posts in Hastings and Grand Haven will still be used by troopers, but won't be open to the public. A $17.7-million dollar savings is expected each year.
