KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Grinch got to Kalamazoo’s Tree Lighting Ceremony but the Who’s of Kalamazoo ignored the glitch and had a real good time anyway. They rewired Bronson Park to bring the electrical system up to code, installing ground fault plugs and City Public Works director Bruce Merchant says like any upgrade, there was a problem. The lights came on when the timer told them to when it got dark and they couldn’t figure out a way to turn them off and back on again. He says they will work on it for next year. The lights were already lit when everyone arrived.
An enormous crowd of thousands, one of the biggest ever for the annual event filled the park, singing carols, dropping off food donations for food pantries. City Commissioners along with Mayor Bobby Hopewell joined the crowd in for a reading of the poem, “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Santa and his wife also greeted the crowd before heading off for his workshop downtown.
It's now officially Christmas Season in Kalamazoo. Watch above.
