PLAINWELL (WKZO) -- Police in Plainwell are investigating a drug overdose that killed a teenager.

The body of an 18-year-old from Plainwell has been sent to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for an autopsy after it’s believed the boy died from an overdose of prescription drugs during a sleepover at the home of a local police officer.

They tried to wake him up Tuesday morning, but he was nonresponsive.

CPR was initiated but not successful.  Plainwell Public Safety has not disclosed the name of the dead teen, where he got the drugs, and whether the officer’s son knew about the drugs.

Officer James Pell has taken a paid leave while his family deals with the fallout from the death.
