It’s a Veteran’s Day special with a marquee game tonight between Michigan State and number-one North Carolina in both team’s season opener aboard a Navy ship.
The first-ever “Carrier Classic” will played on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson, moored in San Diego Bay. That’s the warship that buried Osama bin Laden at sea. Spartan coach Tom Izzo is just hoping for good weather. About seven thousand seats have been set up around the court, and only active military personnel and President Obama are getting tickets, which have not been sold to the general public.
There is a backup plan in case of rain, the game will be moved to a hanger deck below. Also tonight, Michigan opens its season at home against Ferris State.
