KALAMAZOO, Mi -- (WKZO) Statewide, news organizations will be watching how a marijuana initiative in Kalamazoo does at the polls tomorrow.
It would require Public Safety to make possession of less than an ounce of Marijuana their lowest priority. If recreational users were hoping that would legalize Marijuana, City Attorney Clyde Robinson says they are wrong.
If there was a city ordinance banning use of marijuana it might affect that, but there isn’t one. Public Safety enforces the state law which supersedes city actions or bans. Even if the city had such an ordinance, making it a low priority doesn’t make it legal. Proponents argue it will free up public safety to focus on more serious crimes. We suspect they are already busy with other crimes.
