ANN ARBOR, MI (WKZO) -- Coming into this weekend's series with the Michigan Wolverines, the Bronco hockey team had yet to lose. The magnitude of this series was not lost on any of the players, as they were a single point out of first place in the CCHA. The team in their way, the Michigan Wolverines. After a 3-2 victory last night, and snapping a 19 game home winning streak for the Wolverines, Western had all the momentum coming into tonight's game at Yost Arena. However, the Michigan Wolverines proved to be too much tonight. The Broncos have to settle for the split as they fall 5-2.
The Wolverines scored first, but the Broncos rebounded nicely in the second period with goals from Chase Balisy and Derek Roehl.
Michigan took advantage of the power play opportunities tonight, scoring on two chances in the third period to expand the Wolverine lead to 4-2.
The Wolverines added a late empty net goal to finish off the Broncos 5-2.
Western Michigan welcomes Michigan State to Lawson Arena next weekend for a two game series starting on Friday night. Both games have 7:05 starts and can be heard on 96.5 FM and wkzo.com
