KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A St. Joseph County inmate is back in a cell after escaping from a jail work crew, and piling up a brand new list of charges.
Deputies said Adryll Matthews, 23, stole a Chrysler Pacifica and drove it to Kalamazoo, where he was spotted on the north side. Tuesday night, a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer spotted the Pacifica and a chase began that ended when stop strips blew out the SUV’s tires.
He fled on foot and was eventually found nearby, hiding under a loading dock near Kilgore and Woodmont.
Matthews only had about two months left on his sentence for receiving stolen property. The new list of charges could mean he has earned a trip to state prison this time, and not just a stint in the county lockup.
His few hours of freedom may result in years more in jail.
