Kalamazoo Wings Sign Bootland to 2-Year Contract Extension

The Kalamazoo Wings have re-signed Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Nick Bootland to a 2-year-deal.

The Kalamazoo Wings have announced the organization has re-signed director of hockey operations and head coach Nick Bootland to a two-year contract through the 2012-13 season; per team policy, the terms of the contract will be undisclosed.

Having the opportunity to renew the club’s option from Bootland’s previous contract for the upcoming season, the K-Wings decided to let his old contract expire and reward the third-year coach with a brand new two-year deal.

“Over the course of the past three seasons, Nick has demonstrated what we (K-Wings) expect from our head coach in both the community and on the ice,” said K-Wings President Paul L. Pickard. “Reaching the Kelly Cup Finals in our second year in the ECHL is an outstanding accomplishment and we are confident that he is the person to help us reach our ultimate goal of winning the Kelly Cup.”

Guiding the K-Wings to three-straight postseason appearances, Bootland has already won 126 games in his young coaching career.

“My family and I are extremely excited to remain part of one of the top organizations in all of hockey,” said Bootland. “We share the same commitment for winning and by offering a two-year contact demonstrates their belief in my abilities to help the organization and the city capture another championship.”

Since joining the ECHL in 2010, Kalamazoo has captured the North Division in each of their two seasons and just capped off their longest postseason run since the 2006-07 season, when they finished as runners up in the United Hockey League playoffs.
