The boo birds at Comerica Park let Joaquin Benoit have it last night after he allowed the Blue Jays to score 3 runs in the eighth inning, breaking a one-one tie with Toronto going on to a 4-to-2 win over Detroit.
The loss snapped the Tiger’s seven game winning streak and continued a baffling beginning this season for Benoit, the Tiger’s new setup reliever who has slumped his way to a 1-and-3 record with a 3.78 ERA.
It all might have been different if Detroit had taken advantage of a big scoring opportunity in the first inning when they put just one run on the board after loading the bases with no outs.
It was a no-decision for unbeaten Detroit starter Max Scherzer, whose remains at 6-and-0 after allowing one run on eight hits over seven innings. Rick Porcello gets the starts tonight for Detroit to wrap up the brief 2-game series with the Blue Jays, who have won six in a row.
Then tomorrow, the Tigers play at Boston to open a 5-game road trip with 2 games against the Red Sox and then it’s the beginning of inter-league play with a 3-game weekend series against the Pirates.
The White Sox were blanked 4-to-0 last night at home by the Rangers while the Cubs lost 7-to-4 at Cincinnati.
