Valtteri Filppula scored late in the third period to put the Red Wings ahead for good as they topped the Sharks 3-to-1 last night at Joe Louis Arena in Game Six of their Western Conference semifinal series. Detroit will try to finish off its comeback from a 3-to-0 deficit in the series in tomorrow night’s Game Seven in San Jose.
Henrik Zetterberg tied the game half way through the final period and Darren Helm added an empty-netter for the Red Wings. Jimmy Howard stopped 24-of-25 shots in net forDetroit.
The Red Wings aim to avoid becoming the fifth NHL team to rally from a 3-to-0 nothing deficit only to lose a seventh game.
In the ECHL, it’s on to the Kelly Cup Finals for the Kalamazoo Wings, who last night closed out their Eastern Conference Final series against Wheeling with a 6-to-1 Game Six win over the Nailers at Wings Stadium. The finals between the K-Wings and the Alaska Aces begin Saturday night atAlaska.
