Police are trying to identify a group of at least a half-dozen middle-aged women wanted for multiple larcenies and thefts across Metro Detroit. The group is being called the "Mad Hatters" because they are seen on surveillance video wearing distinctive headwear. Sterling Heights Police Lieutenant Luke Riley says the thieves are responsible for big financial losse--$200K in one case. The crimes commonly involve theft of a wallet or purse, with the perpetrators using stolen credit cards to buy merchandise and checks to withdraw money.
