Magglio Ordonez smacked a two-run homer to back eight scoreless innings from Max Scherzer as the Tigers blanked the Yankees 4-to-0 last night inDetroit.
Scherzer gave up just four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts to improve to 5-and-0 on the season. Jhonny Peralta and Miguel Cabrera each added an RBI the Tigers, who made it back-to-back wins over the Yankees since their 7-game losing streak.
The two teams will be back at Comerica Park this afternoon for the rubber game of the 4-game series with Rick Porcello starting for Detroit.
The White Sox lost to the Twins 3-to-2 yesterday afternoon in Chicago while the Cubs last night beat the Dodgers 5-to-1. There was no change to the 29-game hitting streak of Dodger’s outfielder Andre Ethier, who was a scratch with elbow inflammation.
