Scott Sizemore went 3-for-4 to help Tigers defeat the Yankees, 4-2 last night at Comerica Park, snapping Detroit’s seven losing streak.
Sizemore, who was brought up from Triple-A Toledo earlier Tuesday, had an RBI and scored during his season debut. Sizemore, who replaced the demoted Will Rhymes at second base, hit .224 in limited duty with Detroit last season. But he was tearing up the International League this spring, hitting .408 at Toledo.
Brad Penny got the win, giving up one unearned run in six innings of work. Jose Valverde earned his sixth save of the year forDetroit, bouncing back after suffering the defeat Monday night in the opener of this 4-game series. CC Sabathia took the loss for New York. Max Scherzer gets the start for the Tigers tonight.
Francisco Liriano pitched the first no hitter of the season last night in Minnesota’s 1-to-0 victory over the White Sox in Chicago. Liriano walked six and fanned two, needing 123 pitches to accomplish the feat.
And the Cubs beat the Dodgers 4-to-1 last night in Los Angeles. Dodger’s outfielder Andre Ethier extended his hitting streak to 29 games with a bloop single in the fourth inning.
