The Red Wings last night weren’t able to cool off the Sharks who beat visiting Detroit 3-to-1 for their eighth straight win and 17th victory in their last 20 games overall. The Red Wings were also held to one goal in their overtime loss Wednesday night at San Jose.
Backup goalie Joey MacDonald took the defeat in net for Detroit, facing 28 shots from the Sharks. The Red Wing’s lone score came on a power play goal by Tomas Holmstrom. Detroit wraps up its five game road trip tomorrow at Phoenix.
In the ECHL, the Kalamazoo Wings play tonight at Toledo.
Meanwhile, researchers at Boston University have found a degenerative disease in the brain tissue of former Red Wing Bob Probert. The school is studying the effects of concussions and head trauma in sports. Probert died last summer from heart failure. Concussions are up this year in both the NHL and NFL.
