WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ) - The former director of the city of Waupaca's Parks and Recreation department will spend 3 years in prison for stealing over $150,000 from the city.

48-year-old James Ash will also get 5 years extended supervision for funneling the money from a variety of park-rec accounts, softball leagues and youth baseball donations.

During each year of extended supervision, Ash must arrange to speak at area high schools, the City of Waupaca, and other places about his crime and prison experience

Ash pled no contest to the charges, telling authorities he used the money to cover bills, "looking to be a good father and husband."

Ash had been the parks director for 20 years before resigning in May 2010.
