SUPERIOR, WI (WTAQ) - A police officer in Superior has lost his sergeant’s rank, after he was convicted of punching his girlfriend during an argument in Minnesota.
44-year-old Daniel Hawkin avoided jail time this week, when he pleaded guilty in Carlton County to a reduced charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
After an internal police investigation, Hawkin was demoted to an officer’s status.
Police Chief Floyd Peters suspended him for two weeks without pay, and was given a two-year “last chance” agreement.
A judge ordered Hawkin on Monday to take anger management classes and chemical assessments over the next year. Otherwise, he’d have to spend 90 days in jail.
Hawkin had been on paid administrative leave, after he was accused of hitting his girlfriend after an argument in January which started at a casino near Duluth.
