DETROIT, MI (Metro Source) - A wheelchair-bound amputee trying to cross Jefferson Avenue in Detroit last Friday got help but not from two police officers behind him. The "Detroit News" reports a 27-year-old U.S. Army veteran acted as a good Samaritan and got out of his vehicle and pushed the man across the road as one officer swore at the man. Mike Kozlowski pushed the man from the road and yelled at police who, in turn, swore at him. The female officer in the patrol car made an obscene gesture. When Kozlowski returned the gesture back, he was stopped and given a ticket for not having insurance even though he presented police a valid certificate. While getting the ticket, Kozlowski said a Detroit fire truck drove by and saw the man. They stopped and helped the disabled man to the sidewalk. Officials with the Detroit Office of Public Information did not immediately comment on the story that appeared in a Neil Rubin column.
