SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC News) - A controversial video will not be shown to middle school students in the Saugatuck district.
On a 5-2 vote, the members rejected having a 23-minute video become part of the district’s middle-school sex education curriculum. “Coming Out: What Every Teen (Gay and Straight) Needs to Know” was endorsed by a special advisory board as a tool to combat bullying and harassment, and it was approved by state education officials, but following two public hearings and a five-week evaluation period, the board decided against singling out just one group for such protection.
