KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley says he understands that the Community Policing program is popular, and that’s why he plans to reformulate it, rather than scrap it. He will train the entire department how to deliver the neighborhood oriented services instead of assigning those duties to just a few officers.
Hadley has been told to trim $4-million from his budget over the next two years, and he told Commissioners last night that is one way he plans to cut costs. He says he will retain 4 of the neighborhood based officers in Vine, Edison and the North and Eastside neighborhoods, but Hadley warns that more painful cuts are coming.
He’s not ready to say where they may be coming from.
