KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Kalamazoo teen will spend at least the next six years in prison for handling a gun that killed a friend last December. 18-year-old Tommy Phipps will serve two years because the crime involved a gun, and then begin another four to 15 year term for manslaughter. Police believe the 18-year-old was showing off a gun to Alfred Dupree Dunning when it went off, killing the other teen at Conant and Douglas late last year. Phipps had been charged with open murder, but agreed to plead to manslaughter as part of a plea bargain with prosecutors.
