WESTON, Wis (WSAU) There will be at least two public hearings in Weston before Metro-Ride bus service is eliminated. The dates and times have not been announced. They won't happen until later this summer.
The Village Board shows no signs of reversing an early vote to stop funding the route. They say not enough people ride the bus to justify annual expenses of $105,000. The route was also facing a cut in state funding.
The hearings are required before public transit services are dropped.
A local religious group has been arguing in favor of keeping the bus service, saying it’s an important link for jobs and shopping for the poor who don't have cars.
