Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Paul MacLean has been mentioned several times as a head coaching candidate...and now he is...apparently. The Ottawa Senators are set to name MacLean to their head coaching position, as reported by the Associated Press. A Senators team official, under the infamous cloak of anonymity, says that MacLean will become the new coach, following the April firing of former coach Cory Clouston and two of his assistants. Ottawa has missed the NHL playoffs two of the last three years. MacLean has also served as an assistant at Anaheim, and coached the Quad City Mallards to a United Hockey League title in 2001.
