MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) – Merrill school board members have moved to offer an interim superintendent position to current Prairie River Middle School principal Gerald Beyer.
School board president Keith Schmelling says Beyer and the district share the respect of the teacher's union and teachers. “With school starting shortly, we didn't want just a seat warmer. We didn't want a retired superintendent to warm the bench.” At this point, the move is only a job offer, but both Schmelling and current superintendent Lisa Snyder think he'll take the offer.
Schmelling says Beyer shows the district a lot of potential and vision, much like Snyder did when she took the position. But the role is an interim one, and Schmelling says the district will be moving in November to start up a search.
Snyder's last day will be August 5th, and the district hopes to have Beyer in place on Monday.
Snyder took a position last week with the Lakeville, Minnesota school district.
