MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A judge in Madison will hear more arguments Friday on requests to cancel the state Senate recall elections which are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

Six Republican senators face recalls. But the GOP claims that recall organizers did not follow correct procedures in the paperwork that kicked off their petition drives.

Three Democratic senators also face recalls. But that party said petitioners used fraud to obtain their signatures, by saying the petitions were to support things like education and Indian rights.

Actually, the Democratic senators were targeted because they skipped out of Madison for three weeks in a failed effort to block passage of the bill to limit public union bargaining. The Republican senators were targeted because they voted for that bill.

Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess promises to rule on the combined lawsuit by Tuesday – when the first primaries are scheduled for challengers to the six targeted Republicans.
