Darren Helm scored at 1:51 of overtime as the Red Wings blew a three goal lead but still beat the Blues, 4-3 last night in St. Louis. Patrick Eaves tallied in the first and Todd Bertuzzi and Jakub Kindl scored in the second to stake Detroit to a 3-0 lead. The Blues had a pair of goals in the third period to send the game into overtime.
Jiri Hudler had three assists for the Red Wings while Jimmy Howard stopped 26 shots in his return after missing two games because of a bruised knee. Tomorrow afternoon, the Red Wings host the Chicago Blackhawks.
Meanwhile, Detroit is trying to line up some goaltending insurance. They’ve signed former Shark’s goalie Evgeni Nabokov to a one year pro rated contract. However, Nabokov must first clear N-H-L waivers today since he started the season with a club in Russia.
