Western Michigan couldn’t overcome a big deficit at the free throw line last night and the Broncos fell at Toledo 73-to-60. The host Rockets went 26-for-34 from the charity stripe while the Broncos made just 11 of their 21 free throws. Demetrius Ward had 20 points for Western Michigan, which slipped to 9-and-8 overall and 2-and-2 in the Mid American Conference. The Broncos are back in action Saturday afternoon at home against Northern Illinois.
Also last night in the MAC, Eastern Michigan lost at home to Ball State 60-to-51. Ohio State was never threatened last night as it easily passed its first test since being elevated this week to number one in the polls with the Buckeyes rolling at home over Iowa 70-to-48. Ohio State is now 19-and-0 and 6-and-0 in the Big Ten.
Also last night in the Big Ten, number-14 Purdue escaped with a 63-to-62 win at home over Penn State. Next up for Purdue is visiting Michigan State on Saturday night.
