The Red Wings have repeatedly been falling behind early in games this season and it happened again last night in Pittsburgh, where the Penguins beat Detroit 4-to-1. The Red Wings found themselves down 2-to-0 after the opening period.
Johan Franzen split the pipes in the second period to account for Detroit's lone goal of the game. Joey MacDonald allowed three scores on 28 shots for the Red Wings, who have dropped three of their last four contests. Pittsburgh’s other goal came on a penalty shot. Tomorrow night, the Red Wings play at St. Louis.
Meanwhile, Detroit captain Nicklas Lidstrom has been picked as a captain for the N-H-L All-Star game on January 30th to be hosted by the Hurricanes at Raleigh, North Carolina.
