CENTREVILLE (WKZO) -- It took them two days, but a jury has now been seated in the murder case against Doug Stewart in St. Joseph County.
Fourteen people, 9 men and 5 women, have been chosen. Two will be alternates and 12 will finally be asked to come up with a verdict.
The prosecutor plans to call 70 witnesses over the next 3 or 4 weeks.
Stewart is charged with the abduction and murder of his estranged wife, Venus, following a bitter custody dispute last April. Her body hasn't been found, and while that presents an additional challenge to the prosecution, it's not an insurmountable one.
Opening arguments will be heard this morning, and testimony will begin.
