Calley's 'Atomic Bomb' Remark Prompts Reaction

by

HOLLAND (WKZO) -- At a time when politicians are trying to tone down rhetoric after the violence in Tucson, Michigan's lieutenant governor's remarks at a breakfast meeting with the Chamber of Commerce in Holland Tuesday morning has the governor's office reacting.

Brian Calley was addressing about 300 members of the Holland Chamber of Commerce at the time.

"Here's why I think that our message on the 17th of February is going to be dropping an atomic bomb on the city of Lansing: We're going to do an all-cuts solution to our budget deficit," Calley said.

Snyder spokesperson Sara Wurfel told MIRS News that it was “an unfortunate choice of words," and denied that the proposal to be released on the 17th is an “all-cuts budget."
