PARCHMENT (WKZO) -- It was a crime of opportunity, a snap judgment that a 26-year-old Kalamazoo man will spend a much longer time regretting.
A Parchment woman ran into the Parchment Party Store, leaving her 1994 Jeep Cherokee running out in the parking lot. The Kalamazoo man spotted it, jumped inside and drove away. The vehicle was reported stolen and spotted nearby by a Kalamazoo Township Police officer who gave chase.
They got to the 7500 block of north Riverview, where the car thief jumped out, while the Jeep was still rolling. He was captured immediately.
The Jeep came to an abrupt halt when it hit a tree.
The Kalamazoo man is being held for unlawfully driving away an automobile.
