KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Kalamazoo County Board has joined the city of Kalamazoo and voted unanimously to urge the EPA to remove all the contaminated soil from the Allied Paper dumpsite.
The city has been pressuring the federal agency, even coming up with its own plan and cost estimates to excavate and dispose of the PCB laden soil. The resolution points out the dangers of having the contaminants near a residential area.
Most of the alternatives proposed by the EPA so far would just seal it and store it in place.
The EPA is expected to announce their preferred clean-up plan this spring, and there could be a fight over it.
