BATTLE CREEK (WKZO/WTVB) -- Battle Creek Police have questioned, but not yet charged a woman who appeared to be operating an internet scam from a room at the Hampton Inn.
Investigators believe she has been funneling some of the money she has been scamming to accounts in Nigeria, and her room was booked by a man calling from Afghanistan. That has brought Homeland Security into the investigation.
They allege she was using phony on-line businesses and a dating sight to obtain bank account and credit card numbers from victims all over the country, then draining their accounts and making phony charges. But investigating and gathering evidence will take time because victims are far flung and records have to be searched.
