ALLEGAN COUNTY -- Allegan County deputies have released the name of a Kalamazoo woman who died in a fiery collision on U.S. 131 Sunday night.

Barbara Foster, 83, may have never seen the minivan sitting sideways on the southbound lanes after it spun out.  Her Chevy Malibu hit the van, and dove into a ditch where it caught fire.  Two other motorists stopped and braved the smoke and small explosions to pull her from the wreck. She was pronounced dead at Borgess Pipp. 

The driver of the van, Sue Kroft, 45, of Kalamazoo, and her boyfriend’s 14-year-old son were treated and released. Kroft was reportedly driving on a suspended license.  

Accident investigators plan to check the steering mechanism of her van to verify her claim that the van suffered a mechanical problem, that caused her to spin.
