DETROIT (WKZO) -- The state of Michigan is slated on Tuesday to start a review of the finances of the city of Detroit.
The move could ultimately lead to an emergency manager being put in place by the governor to lead Motown away from the fiscal cliff. State Treasurer Andy Dillon says the financial review will help the state determine if city officials are dealing with a 150-million dollar accumulated deficit and a 45-million dollar cash shortfall next year.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says he expects to meet with union leaders this week to discuss changes in healthcare and pension costs to reduce the deficit, and doesn't feel the need for a financial emergency manager for the city.
