The new Boardwalk Empire trailer paints such a lovely picture of the Prohibition Era. Ah, the 1920s. An age of purity and whimsy. A musical, happy-go-lucky time for Atlantic County, New Jersey and then, of course, the twenty-second mark hits and things seem to get a little...darker. But that's okay, it doesn't necessarily mean...wait, why is Jimmy holding Harrow's face mask like that? Why does Margaret look so worried? Where did that Klansman come from? Things are about to get pretty severe.
The first season of Boardwalk Empire did an incredible job of laying a dark and depraved world of crime and politics beneath the sweet and wholesome illustration of the time period's Atlantic City. This season, it seems like things will become even more fiery beneath the surface. Nucky is losing allies. Al Capone is gaining respect. The Klan is growing stronger. And now, heroin is entering the picture. Things don't look too good for anybody. Except the viewers.
Boardwalk Empire's second season begins Sunday, September 25 at 9 pm on HBO.
