KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- It's official. A petition drive that would require the city of Kalamazoo to provide zoning permits for three medical marijuana dispensaries fell 73 signatures short of qualifying.
Monday, Campaign Organizer Chris Chiles went to Kalamazoo City Hall and asked commissioners to use their authority and put it on the ballot anyway.
He seemed to think that voter approval in Kalamazoo might persuade the Michigan Supreme Court to reverse a court of appeals ruling that dispensaries aren’t legal.
The city commission passed a zoning ordinance earlier this year designed to keep dispensaries out of the city.
