VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO) -- Van Buren County Deputies say that the migrant worker who struck and killed a Plainwell woman on Sunday may be an undocumented alien, and have asked federal officials to confirm that.
Deputies are now saying that 27-year-old Martin Gonzolez was coming from an “end of the season” party at Brookside Farms, when he allegedly struck and killed Deanna Searles who was riding a Harley Davidson on C.R. 388 with several friends and her husband Van Buren County Deputies say their suspect may have been drunk and angry before the incident, because his wife tried to take away his keys.
Deputies are working with Immigration officials to try and verify the identity of the suspect, who had no driver’s license.
If he is not a citizen and convicted, he could serve time and be deported.
