GOBLES, MI (WKZO) -- A Plainwell woman is dead and a farm worker is in jail after a head on-collision between a van and a motorcycle late yesterday afternoon.
Van Buren County Deputies say the 27-year-old Hispanic male had been drinking while working at a blueberry farm on County Road 388 near Gobles. He pulled out of the farm’s driveway at a high rate of speed, at about 5:30PM, crossing the centerline and striking a motorcycle driven by 46-year-old Deanna Searles head on.
The van ended up on top of the motorcycle. Mrs. Searles wound up in a ditch, pronounced dead at the scene. The van driver had no license and a blood alcohol count that was over twice the legal limit. He’s in jail. Deputies plan to bring in Immigration officials to try and identify him.
Mrs. Searles was riding with her husband and several others on motorcycles. She was the last in the group.
