PORTAGE (WKZO) -- A traffic accident saw some brief road closures Tuesday morning just before 10 a.m.  A head-on collision involving a sedan and an SUV in the 9600-block of Portage had Portage Police close the southbound lanes of the road while victims were taken to the hospital.

Police say the driver of the car, 49-year-old Vincent Jones Sr. of Kalamazoo, had serious injuries, while the driver of the SUV, 50-year-old Melinda Boccia of Portage, was knocked unconscious and passenger 20-year-old Emalee Norhrop was treated for minor injuries.  Apparently the car crossed over into oncoming traffic, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the collision.  It's being investigated.
