KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Construction on Kalamazoo’s new airport tower - and hundreds of other airport construction projects - will be shut down until fall, if not longer.
Democrats are lashing out at Republicans for leaving Washington without resolving the FAA’s budget. They objected to subsidies to provide service to rural airports. Former NTSB Chairman Mark Rosenker said the flap over a few million will cost the FAA 1.5-billion in tax revenues it won’t be able to collect because the Senate has recessed until September. That means millions in improvements will be delayed or cancelled.
House Democrat James Clyburn says the GOP’s unwillingness to compromise, even after democrats agreed to cut the least efficient subsidies has once again left a dysfunctional government.
That also means 4,000 FAA employees will be taking an extended unpaid vacation, & 70-thousand construction workers will remain off the job.
