KALAMAZOO -- Thousands of police and firefighters from across the state of Michigan as well as the United States arrived for the memorial service of the 1st public safety officer ever killed in Kalamazoo by gunfire. Officer Eric Zapata's memorial was held at Miller Auditorium and featured speeches by Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell, Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley and Kalamazoo City Manager Ken Collard.
