KALAMAZOO, Mich (WLMI) Officials in Kalamazoo have identified the police officer who was shot and killed Monday night. Public Safety Chief Jeffrey Hadley says 35-year-old Officer Eric Zipata was shot by 31-year-old Leonard Statler who was reportedly shooting a gun on Hays Park Avenue. Statler then turned the gun on himself. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Funeral arrangements are pending. Hadley becomes the first Public Safety officer in the department's history to die in the line of duty.
