Public Safety to Speak on Death of Officer

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A noon press conference Tuesday is expected to shed more light on the events that led up to the death of a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer.  

It happened in the 1400-block of Hays Park, where officers responded to a gunfire call just after 11pm Monday night.

A 31-year-old man seen on the porch of a home opened fire on the first officers on the scene, one of whom returned fire. As the man ran between houses, Public Safety says he opened fire again, wounding and killing another officer.

A Public Safety news release indicates the man then took his own life.
