(Lansing, MI) -- State university leaders are concerned about Governor Snyder's proposal to change how universities are funded. The Ann Arbor Republican told the "Lansing State Journal" that, starting in fiscal year 2013, he wants to base funding on a formula that urges schools to "graduate a highly educated workforce in a timely manner." The formula is not yet written, but it would also be based on universities doing research that helps Michigan's economy. University leaders say they fear a formula would be political and they hope it would recognize different universities have different missions and various kinds of students.
