Last night’s matchup in Washington of two teams playing out the string and heading home instead of to the playoffs next week turned into a tale of two rookies as the Pistons dropped their 11th straight road game with a 107-to-105 loss to the Wizards.
Greg Monroe led the way for Detroit with 22 points and 14 rebounds, but he also missed a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining that could have tied the game. Wizard’s fellow rookie John Wall willed Washington to the win, scoring 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and also had 12 assists, helping his team to its first three game winning streak in three years.
In the end, Detroit still had a chance to win when Austin Daye’s last second 3-pointer from the corner went halfway down but rimmed out. The Pistons, who suffered their fourth straight loss, play tonight at the Palace against the New Jersey Nets, who won last night at home over the Timberwolves.
