(Taymouth Township, MI) -- Governor Snyder has ordered US flags on all state buildings lowered to half staff immediately following the death of a 10-year veteran Michigan State Police officer this morning. Trooper Jeffrey Werda was killed while on a run from the Bridgport post southeast of Saginaw. Department officials say he lost control of his cruiser, which then rolled over and wound up in a ditch near Birch Run and Morrish Roads, between Saginaw and Flint. Werda was ejected from his vehicle and died at a local hospital. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
