KALAMAZOO (WKZO) - More Michigan school districts are turning to private companies to provide support services. The Mackinac Center for Public Policy has just released a report which found a big jump in school privatization over the past year.
Fiscal Policy Analyst James Hohman tells us that the number of school districts that contract out for food, custodial or transportation services increased to 269 from 2009 to 2010, an eight percent jump, and the single biggest year-to-year increase in the history of the Mackinac Center's survey. Hohman says private companies are usually cheaper for schools to use.
